Wage Range: $25.00 - $30.00

HR Coordinator
Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of human resources activities in functions such as staffing, benefits, training, and will assist with payroll and serve as a backup to the payroll specialist.  Generally, specializes in two or more assigned areas.  Tasks include assisting in the execution of recruitment programs including interviewing and evaluating applicants. Onboard new hires. Assist with benefits open enrollment sessions, benefit orientation sessions and process employee elections. Conduct mandated training sessions (Compass and Harassment). Conduct termination interviews. Administer provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and advise plant supervisors/managers in the application and adherence to contract provisions. Data entry into the HRIS and S2 systems; updating and maintaining. Cross train in Payroll and assist when needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (other duties may be assigned as needed):
Compliance:
  1. Understand the Collective Bargaining Agreement and guide supervisors/managers in the application and adherence to contract provisions. This includes but is not limited to time off procedures, attendance tracking, seniority, and posting procedures.
  2. Understand Company policies and guide supervisors/managers in the application and adherence to the provisions.
  3. Understands Federal and State wage and hour laws and Federal and State leave laws.
Staffing:
  1. Assist in the execution of recruiting programs. Place job vacancies in TAM and assist with the onsite monthly job fairs. Interview, evaluate and recommend qualified applicants to the hiring manager.
  2. Onboard new hires. E-Verify, coordinate pre-employment drug screens, data entry into ADP and S2 systems. Create job badge.
  3. Build candidate pool through direct sourcing, networking, referrals, events etc.
  4. Work with staffing agencies to secure temporary staff if required. Ensure paperwork is complete and data entered into ADP and S2 systems.
Benefits:
  1. Conduct new hire benefits orientation. 
  2. Track and monitor employee eligibility for benefits. Assist with open enrollment meetings. Enter benefit elections into ADP system. Process premium billings. Respond to employee inquiries and concerns about benefits.
Training:
  1. Conduct mandated training for union and non-union employees.
Payroll:
  1. Assist Payroll Specialist with processing weekly and bi-weekly payroll to include timecard edits and corrections.
  2. Serve as back-up to Payroll Specialist in her/his absence.
  3. Assist in processing Garnishment.
  4. Assist with Verifications of Employment.
  5. Assist with the annual collection of meal waivers.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  1. None, however, provides support across all departments on recruiting, staffing, employee relations issues, benefits, and leaves of absences.

Adhere to all safety and GMP policies and procedures.


Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  1. HS degree and a minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Some college coursework is preferred.
  2. Knowledge of Wage and Hour laws is required.
  3. Strong customer service orientation is required.
  4. Experience in Payroll is a plus but not a requirement.
  5. Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience working with ADP’s HRIS platform a plus.
  6. Experience working in a Union environment a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  1. Biliterate in English and Spanish are required.
  2. Effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the company, including senior-level executives to front-line workers.
  3. Read and interpret documents such as human resource policies, collective bargaining agreements, safety rules, and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  1. Works with mathematical concepts at an intermediate level.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATION:
  1. Prefer PHR but not required.
  2. Valid Driver’s License

REASONING ABILITY:
  1. Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  2. Ability to use good judgment and a high level of discretion with sensitive, confidential issues and projects.
  3. Decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills are necessary to be successful.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
  1. Must keep up on CA and Federal laws and regulations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to air conditioning. Also, while performing duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally exposed to cold temperatures and heat when visiting plant. The employee may be visiting plant locations where the use of chemical substances is present and used in the processing plant. Employee’s work is also subject to the pressures of time constraints and deadlines. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
