Position Summary
Adams is seeking a Business Development Manager to accelerate growth within our industrial ingredients business. This individual will be responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities with food manufacturers while growing selected existing accounts.
The position will focus on selling extracts, spices, seasoning blends, and flavor solutions to food processors, with particular emphasis on meat processors and strategic growth opportunities within snacks, bakery, dairy, beverages, sauces, and prepared foods.
The successful candidate will be a proven sales hunter with experience selling food ingredients and navigating complex customer organizations that include procurement, R&D, operations, and executive leadership.
Experience selling seasonings, flavors, spices, extracts, marinades, ingredient systems, or related food ingredients to food manufacturers is strongly preferred. Experience selling to meat processors is also strongly preferred.
The role is expected to devote approximately 60% of its effort to new business development and 40% to growing existing accounts.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a strategic plan to achieve annual sales and profit objectives.
- Identify, qualify, and secure new business opportunities within food manufacturing.
- Expand Adams' presence within meat processing while developing opportunities in snack, bakery, dairy, beverage, and prepared food categories.
- Build and maintain a healthy sales pipeline through prospecting, networking, referrals, trade shows, and industry relationships.
- Manage customer opportunities from initial contact through commercialization and ongoing account growth.
- Develop strong relationships with key decision makers across purchasing, R&D, operations, quality, and executive management.
- Collaborate with internal teams to support product development, customer trials, product launches, and ongoing business needs.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and supply agreements within company guidelines.
- Maintain accurate forecasting, pipeline reporting, and CRM records.
- Represent Adams at industry events, customer meetings, and trade shows.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of five years of successful B2B sales experience serving food manufacturers.
- Demonstrated success developing new business and growing customer accounts.
- Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple opportunities and long sales cycles.
- Willingness to travel approximately 40–60%.
Preferred
- Experience selling seasonings, flavors, spices, extracts, marinades, ingredient systems, coatings, or related food ingredients.
- Experience selling directly to meat processors and protein manufacturers.
- Existing industry relationships within food manufacturing.
- Understanding of food formulation, commercialization, and manufacturing processes.
