Overview
A well-established food manufacturing company is seeking a Cost Accounting Manager to support financial operations across multiple production facilities. This role partners closely with plant leadership to drive cost visibility, improve margins, and support overall operational performance.
Position Summary
The Cost Accounting Manager will lead plant-level cost accounting activities, including standard costing, variance analysis, inventory valuation, and financial reporting. This position plays a key role in supporting operational decision-making through data-driven insights and financial analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all cost accounting functions within a manufacturing environment, including standard costs, bills of materials, labor, and overhead allocation
- Partner with operations to analyze cost drivers, production efficiencies, and spending trends
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for assigned areas
- Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
- Prepare and deliver detailed reports on cost performance, variances, and operational metrics
- Maintain accurate inventory valuation and support physical inventory processes
- Contribute to general accounting functions such as reconciliations and journal entries
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability through analysis of product costing and operational performance
- Support audits and ensure compliance with internal controls and financial policies
- Provide leadership and guidance to a small team
Qualifications
- Bachelor?s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5+ years of cost accounting experience within a manufacturing environment (food industry experience is a plus)
- Strong background in standard costing and variance analysis
- Experience working closely with operations teams in a plant setting
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, labor structures, and cost drivers
- ERP system experience (SAP, Oracle, or similar)
- Advanced Excel and strong analytical skills
