Overview
A growing food manufacturing company is seeking a Cost Accountant to support plant-level financial operations. This role offers strong exposure to manufacturing accounting processes and is ideal for someone early in their career looking to build expertise in cost accounting within a production environment.
Position Summary
The Cost Accountant will assist with key cost accounting functions, including variance analysis, inventory tracking, and standard cost support. This position works closely with both finance leadership and operations teams to ensure accurate reporting and provide insight into production costs and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze manufacturing variances, including labor, materials, purchase price, and overhead
- Support standard costing processes and assist with cost roll updates
- Prepare journal entries and perform account reconciliations during month-end close
- Assist with inventory accounting, including cycle counts and physical inventory processes
- Generate regular reports on cost performance and operational metrics
- Partner with operations to better understand production activity and cost drivers
- Support audit processes by preparing required schedules and documentation
- Contribute to ad hoc analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor?s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 1 3 years of accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment
- Exposure to cost accounting principles and inventory processes
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage tasks independently
- Experience working with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar preferred)
- Proficient in Excel with solid analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
