Job Summary
Reporting to the CEO, the Accounting Manager will play a key role in managing all financial operations and supporting executive decision-making. In a small company setting, this role is hands-on and requires the ability to handle multiple priorities efficiently. The Controller will oversee accounting, financial management, and strategic planning functions across various levels of responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Accounting and Finance Department, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely completion of all financial reports and statements.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning while providing strategic recommendations to the CEO based on financial analysis and performance.
- Develop and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to maintain strong financial governance.
- Monitor and evaluate the company?s investments, including real estate, farms, stocks, and other assets, to maximize returns and manage risk.
- Support the CEO in identifying, evaluating, and underwriting new investment opportunities, including conducting due diligence and securing financing.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated history of long-term employment and job stability.
- Skilled in investment analysis, valuation, and calculating internal rate of return (IRR).
- Proven ability to thrive in a small business environment.
- At least 5 7 years of experience serving as a Controller within the U.S.
- Experienced in leading departments with 5 to 10 direct reports.
- Holds a bachelor?s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
- Strong in leadership, critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving.
- Effective project manager with the ability to define objectives, develop strategies, evaluate options, and implement efficient, high-quality solutions.
- Background or hands-on experience in farming.
- Quick to learn with excellent time management capabilities.
- Highly proficient in office software, especially advanced Excel functions.
- Exceptional organizational and planning skills.
- Experience with permanent crop farming is highly valued; background in nut farming, especially pistachios and/or almonds, is a significant advantage.
- Prior experience as an Accounting Manager is considered a strong asset.
- Familiarity with farm acquisitions, particularly pistachio and almond farms, is a major plus.
- Skilled in underwriting new investment opportunities.
- Background in real estate acquisition and development.
- Proven ability to oversee financial advisors, money managers, and corporate stock portfolios.
- Experience with stock market investments, private equity, private placements, and alternative assets.
- Possession of a CPA license is preferred.
- Master?s degree or MBA is an added advantage.
